Ron Allan: Educating Individuals in the Art and Business of Voice Over

March 19, 2022

BIG VOICE Productions, Inc exists by God’s grace to educate individuals in the art and business of Voice Over as well as serve those in need of custom voice and audio production services.

Tell us about yourself?

My work life background ranges from cook/prep at local pizza stores to stock clerk at a big city airport to resident care aide in a mental hospital to finally finding my calling in life as a radio & TV personality, which I did professionally for over 25 years as an employee.

Eventually I learned that I had marketable skills that were needed in the local and now global marketplace, so developed a loose business plan, quit my on-air radio personality/Program Director job and launched my own audio post production studio business.

The question is posed here “what made you get into this line of work?” Well, nothing “made me” get into my profession. Rather I was seeking the Lord God’s will for life and when I received the answer, I obeyed Him.

If you could go back in time a year or two, what piece of advice would you give yourself?

It would take going back farther than a year or two, but I would advise myself to take inventory of my gifts; then discover the market for those services, while working continually on perfecting my skill sets to serve those who need my services. And pray more.

What problem does your business solve?

Exactly! My business solves problems that local, regional and national advertisers have of finding and developing their own brand voice and audio signature sound. The other problem we solve is of individuals who don’t know how to get started in the art and business of Voice Over.

What is the inspiration behind your business?

We were inspired by the Holy Spirit. Daily our pray is to help and serve whomever God brings into our path that day.

What is your magic sauce?

Our “magic sauce” if that’s how you refer to it, is not magic at all. It’s show up to serve every day. That’s it…just show up to serve. We differ from our competition by offering more real world experience and more value in our training packages than other VO coaches. One of the ways we do this is by casting our VO students in actual TV and/or radio commercials for our clients. We also produce more VO demos than most other coaches.

What is the plan for the next 5 years? What do you want to achieve?

We are branching into small business, software-based marketing video production services. We want to help the local small businesses in this area who perhaps can’t afford full blown video productions. In the next 5 years, we project to have over two dozen clients in this area.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?

By far, the biggest challenge has been trying to run the day-to-day business needs by myself while being the Coach and talent all at the same time. It’s enough work for three people! Keeping up with all the necessary marketing options and how to effectively navigate them has been an issue.

How do people get involved/buy into your vision?

We train individual Voice Over students both locally in-studio or long-distance via Zoom sessions. We want people who are serious about ditching the world work system, profiting someone else while being under bondage, and instead want to learn how to support themselves and their family working from home with their own God-given talents.
