Peter is the CTO and founder of Brain Jar. He’s worked for such companies and AOL and WordPress.com and been working in web production for more than two decades.
IF YOU COULD GO BACK IN TIME A YEAR OR TWO, WHAT PIECE OF ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE YOURSELF?
If I could go back in time a year or two and give myself some advice, I’d say to make sure every web product you build is enjoyable to use for everyone, no matter what race, religion, disability, socioeconomic status or fluency in English.

Brain Jar will take care of that website-related problem you just can’t seem to find the time to fix yourself.
WHAT IS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND YOUR BUSINESS?
Brain Jar’s inspiration was seeing how difficult to use most websites are for users with disabilities. We dedicated ourselves then to making sure the web is welcoming to everyone.
WHAT IS YOUR MAGIC SAUCE?
Our magic sauce is our CEO, Dr. Rhiannon Little-Surowski. Her expertise in diversity, equity, and inclusion ensures we build great products for everyone, and her background as a researcher ensures that every project we complete is driven by data.
WHAT IS THE PLAN FOR THE NEXT 5 YEARS? WHAT DO YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE?
Our goal is to ensure every university, college, government agency and local business has a website that is enjoyable for everyone.
WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE YOU’VE FACED SO FAR?
Our biggest challenge so far is educating our clients, who usually have no disabilities. It’s difficult to show them how important it is for a user with no hands to be able to use their website.
