A QUICK INTRODUCTION ABOUT WHAT YOUR COMPANY DOES/YOUR VALUES/MISSION.
Math Tutor Pro, LLC provides valuable problem sets to help students learn important math concepts. These problem sets are currently written in Javascript and PHP, but I am also interested in utilizing other programming languages to make even more value added content. I would also like to incorporate more graphics into the site instead of having questions that fully focus on numerical questions, such as factoring.
TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF?
I’m a chemical engineer who has a PhD from MIT. I started working in education about two years ago, and I’ve taught at the middle school, high school, and college levels.
IF YOU COULD GO BACK IN TIME A YEAR OR TWO, WHAT PIECE OF ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE YOURSELF?
I would tell myself that everything will work out for the best.
WHAT PROBLEM DOES YOUR BUSINESS SOLVE?
COVID-19 has set many students back several grade levels in math, and we aim to help students get back to where they should be.
WHAT IS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND YOUR BUSINESS?
I’ve always been a strong math student, and I am hoping to help as many students as possible with the site.
WHAT IS YOUR MAGIC SAUCE?
All of our problem sets are custom-built, and they’re different from what’s available from other sites.
WHAT IS THE PLAN FOR THE NEXT 5 YEARS? WHAT DO YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE?
I would like to continue to grow the business by helping more students. I think that ultimately the site will be the most useful if it’s used in the school / classroom setting. I can envision that teachers could refer a classroom of students to the site for them to work through content for 20 – 30 minutes. This would provide a lot of traffic to the site, and more importantly, I think that having teachers recommend additional content would be a great leap forward for the site as they are the ones who truly know what students are struggling with the most from an educational / academic perspective.
WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE YOU’VE FACED SO FAR?
The biggest challenge that I’ve faced so far is with regards to customer acquisition and finding collaborators. I’ve talked to a number of educators regarding making content for their students, but I’ve had limited success so far.
HOW DO PEOPLE GET INVOLVED/BUY INTO YOUR VISION?
I think that once individuals realize how important math education is, they will see the value of the site.
