Alex MacCallum
Assistant Editor and SVP, Video of The New York Times
When New York Times editor Dean Baquet announced the appointment of digital media veteran Alex MacCallum as senior vice president of video, he noted that video journalism on the Web is an entirely new medium, distinct even from television. The key editorial and commercial appointment followed a much-discussed innovation report that showed The Times lagging behind some of its digital competitors in social engagement. MacCallum took charge of the video unit in January; she joined The Times in March 2013 as senior manager of business development, and in 2014, she headed an audience development team. Before The Times, MacCallum worked for Lerer Ventures as a strategy consultant in business development and operations; previously, she was a corporate counsel to The Huffington Post, where she was also a founding news editor.
