Nicholas Woodman
Owner, CEO & Founder of GoPro
While the eight-person staff of GoPro was enjoying the success of their first HD HERO camera in 2009, founder and CEO Nick Woodman realized one thing: to support his vision, he was going to need a bigger staff. But before Woodman could think bigger, he had to start out small. After receiving a degree in Visual Arts from the University of California, San Diego, Woodman founded an online promotions company, Fun Bug. In 2001, Woodman sold Fun Bug and took off surfing and traveling the world. The decision inspired more than the personal – Woodman’s passion for surfing sparked the idea to create the now-popular wearable and gear mountable camera and in 2002, Woodman founded GoPro. After years of research and planning, the company released its first product, the GoPro HERO, a 35mm film-based camera that was worn on the wrist. Made up of some of Woodman’s friends and family members, the early GoPro team established the company as a true innovator by continually iterating on the product, moving from a film-based camera to a digital still and video camera. A lifetime extreme sports enthusiast, Woodman was learning how to race cars when he was compelled to move the camera from his wrist to the top of his car. This simple idea led to an array of camera mounting devices – for everything from helmets to surfboards, and even dog collars.

James Cameron
Co-Founder of Cameron Pace Group
Born in Kapuskasing, Ontario, Canada, James Cameron grew up in the historic village of Chippawa, near Niagara Falls. In 1971, he moved to Brea, California where he studied physics at Fullerton Junior College while working as a machinist and, later, a truck driver. Cameron quit his trucking job in 1978 and raised money from local dentists to produce a 35mm short film. The visual effects in this film led to work on Roger Corman’s BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS (1980). In 1983, Cameron wrote three scripts: RAMBO: FIRST BLOOD PART 2, ALIENS, and THE TERMINATOR. He directed THE TERMINATOR, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, in 1984. Cameron subsequently directed ALIENS (1986), then wrote and directed THE ABYSS (1989). Following that he wrote, produced and directed TERMINATOR 2:JUDGMENT DAY (1991), TRUE LIES (1994), TITANIC (1997), and AVATAR (2009). He also co-wrote and produced POINT BREAK (1991) and STRANGE DAYS (1994), as well as produced SOLARIS (2003). His films have blazed new trails in visual effects and set numerous performance records both domestically and abroad. AVATAR currently holds both the domestic and worldwide box office records having grossed more than $2.7 billion at the global box office, beating the previous record holder, TITANIC, which held that record for 12 years. Cameron’s films have also earned numerous nominations and awards from a variety of organizations, including TITANIC’s record-setting 14 Academy Award nominations and 11 Oscars (the most any movie has received), including Cameron’s three Oscars for Best Picture, Best Direction and Best Editing. AVATAR won the Golden Globes for Best Director and Best Picture. It was nominated for nine Academy Awards and won three. Cameron has also been an avid scuba diver since 1969. In 1995, Cameron made 12 manned-submersible dives to the Titanic in preparation for his feature film. The technical success of that expedition fueled his desire to bring the experience of deep ocean exploration to audiences around the world. He turned to documentary filmmaking and formed Earthship Productions to develop films about ocean exploration and conservation. His team’s historic exploration of the inside of Titanic was the subject of Cameron’s 3-D Imax film, GHOSTS OF THE ABYSS, which utilized the 3D camera system that he developed with Vince Pace. In May of 2002, Cameron guided his robotic cameras inside the wreck of Bismarck for the Discovery Channel documentary, JAMES CAMERON’S EXPEDITION: BISMARCK. Cameron’s team then made four expeditions to deep hydrothermal vent sites in the Atlantic, Pacific and Sea of Cortez over a two-year period, which became the subject of ALIENS OF THE DEEP, also released in 3D IMAX. Most recently, Cameron has led seven deep ocean expeditions with more than 70 deep submersible dives, including 51 Mir dives to depths up to 16,000 feet. As an explorer, Cameron has been equally fascinated by outer as well as inner space. He is currently a co-investigator on the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) Mastcam, which will be the first 3D motion imaging camera to operate on another planet, when it begins its exploration there in 2011. Cameron served on the NASA Advisory Council for three years. Cameron is also continuing to develop a number of ocean projects, and other environmentally themed documentaries.

Prof. Sachs is also a professor of mechanical engineering at MIT. Founded in 2015 by leaders in advanced manufacturing, materials science, and robotics, Desktop Metal is addressing the unmet challenges of speed, cost, and quality to make metal 3D printing an essential tool for engineers and manufacturers around the world. As a visionary and inventor of the MIT 3D printing process and binder jet printing, Prof. Sachs has played a key role in the development of Desktop Metal’s mass production system, which builds metal parts in a matter of minutes instead of hours with high precision, single-pass technology. At MIT beginning in the late 1980s, Prof. Sachs became a visionary in rapid prototyping. With colleagues, he developed the concept of 3D printing, ultimately allowing engineers to create functional parts rather than models or patterns for prototyping and testing, as well as for creating finished product components. 3D printing technology has since been applied to a wide variety of systems and application areas including metal end-use parts. His work in this area yielded more than 40 patents and launched a brand new industry. Prof. Sachs became a member of the MIT faculty in 1986. In addition to 3D Printing, Prof Sachs is also known for his invention of conformal cooled molds and contributions to the manufacturing of photovoltaics, particularly for the invention of processes which make silicon wafers directly from molten silicon with no sawing required. Maxim Lobovsky
Co-Founder and CEO of Formlabs
Maxim Lobovsky launched a successful career as an entrepreneur and startup founder by age 25. As a Program in Media Arts and Sciences master’s student at MIT’s Media Lab, Lobovsky enjoyed access to three-dimensional printers to create necessary components for his projects, designed and printed to spec. Lobovsky could see the potential applications of 3D printing for designers, architects, engineers, and other small businesses;however, the machines he used were prohibitively expensive. After graduating, Lobovsky worked with two of his friends to create the first small-scale, affordable 3D printer for “prosumers,” or professional consumers, and thus was born his startup, Formlabs. Once they had a prototype, called the Form 1, Lobovsky and Formlabs’ co-founders began a Kickstarter campaign, using the power of crowdsourced funding to finance the production of commercial models. Formlabs raised more than $1 million in a week, and nearly $3 million overall—30 times their original fundraising goal. The Form 1 is compatible with CAD software, and uses stereolithography technology to print layers as thin as .001 inches.

Danny Stefanic
Founder of ExitReality
After completing a double major in Computer Science and Software Engineering at Swinburne University, he founded the Virtual Reality Association in 1994, which has since grown into an international non-profit organisation. His first job was at Adacel in the multimedia department, before he got involved with the panoramic industry and developed the technology for the world’s first panoramic viewer for the web. This was later licensed by the US technology multinational IPIX. In 1996 he was approached by a company called 3D Cubed, which captured his attention as they were interested in beginning an e-commerce solution in 3D – an area that, as President of the Virtual Reality Association, was especially close to his heart. He ended up developing the software ShopFactory, a program that allows businesses to create professional 3D online shops and has since become a leading e-commerce solution with more than 50,000 shops based on its secure shopping cart software solutions. He decided to leave 3D Cubed after a few years to pursue his interest in 3D and the virtual reality space, and in 2000 ExitReality.com was registered. From that point on he has focused all his time, energy and efforts into developing the perfect 3D Internet. He saw 3D as an untapped market, a media type yet to be fully adopted by the mass market of web users. After nearly a decade of hard work, he couldn’t be more proud and excited for ExitReality officially coming out of private beta and globally launching to the public in 2008. In April 2007, world-leading IT research & advisory company, Gartner, made the prediction that “80 Percent of Active Internet Users Will Have A ‘Second Life’ in the Virtual World by the End of 2011â€. With the launch of ExitReality, the aim is to potentially bring that predication date a lot closer!

For his unique contributions, he was awarded by the president, the prestigious national security award. Benny then joined Applied Materials, where he led the work on semiconductor wafer inspection platform and later on electron beam mask writing system, becoming aware to the new growth opportunities in Solar, he decided to leave Applied Materials and join his first start-up, Solyndra. Joining Solyndra as VP of back end technology and engineering in its earliest stage he defined the company’s product by a series of inventions that became the company’s core IP. He hired an excellent team and led it from early concept through product demonstration, manufacturing process development, equipment design and early scale up. However, as the cost model was firming up, he became convinced, four years before the company’s collapse that the company’s cost structure is fundamentally inferior to First Solar, the cost leader of the industry Impressed by First Solar’s cost advantage and its momentum he joined First Solar as director of device physics and built this team. He pushed it from support of incremental improvements to more radical device research and innovation, resulting in crushing of the CdTe cell and module efficiency world records. . After being promoted to VP Module integration, heading all the technology development for the CdTe PV module, he reorganized the development department and realigned its processes, methods and interactions with the manufacturing organization that resulted in doubling the module efficiency improvement rate. Benny graduated from the Jerusalem University in Physics. He is also an Electrical Engineering (communications) graduate from the Technion in Israel.
