Lars Linden is the CTO for Focused Impressions. Before joining the firm, Lars was a Senior Vice President and Head of Technology Delivery, Global Transaction Services and Payments for RBS Americas. Prior to that role, Lars was the Head of Data Center Services, also for RBS Americas. Prior to joining RBS Americas in 2008, Lars was responsible for corporate strategy for Glasshouse Technologies, a firm that provided vendor-agnostic managed consulting services in the areas of cloud-based deployments, virtualization, storage environments and workspace initiatives. Before joining Glasshouse Technologies in 2005, Lars served in senior leadership positions in technology at State Street Global Advisors as well as Pretzel Logic. He began his career at Liberty Mutual Insurance in 1991. Lars is a culturally-adept and innovative technology leader who has focused on building new technologies and in some cases, disrupting long-standing business methods, by successfully introducing new standards for best practices at the important intersection of business process and technology implementation. His career opportunities have given him both insights and skills in proactive system performance improvements, business process enhancements, data management, security, resiliency, audit control, and continuous improvement through analytics review. Stephen Brobst
Chief Technology Officer of Teradata
Ctephen Brobst is the chief technology officer (CTO) for Teradata Corporation. He is widely regarded as a leading expert in data warehousing and joined the Teradata team in October of 1999. Previously, Brobst successfully launched three start-up companies related to high-end database products and services in the data warehousing and e-business marketplaces. These businesses included: Tanning Technology Corporation (IPO on NASDAQ), NexTek Solutions (acquired by IBM) and Strategic Technologies & Systems (acquired by NCR). Stephen also taught graduate courses at Boston University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in both the MBA program at the Sloan School of Management and in the computer science departments of both universities. He received the instructor of the year award for two of his last five years in the MET Computer Science department at Boston University and continues as a frequent guest lecturer at MIT and the Kellogg Graduate School of Management. Stephen performed Master’s and Ph.D. research at MIT, where his dissertation focused on load-balancing and resource allocation for massively parallel computing architectures. He also holds an MBA with joint course and thesis work at the Harvard Business School and the MIT Sloan School of Management. Brobst completed his undergraduate work in electrical engineering and computer science in just three years at University of California, Berkeley, and was awarded the highest honor given to a graduating senior in the College of Engineering (Bechtel Engineering Award). Brobst is an elected member of the Phi Beta Kappa, Eta Kappa Nu, Tau Beta Pi, Sigma Xi, New York Academy of Sciences, University of California, Berkeley Alumni Scholars Association, and the California Scholarship Federation honor societies. He has served as an advisor to the National Academy of Sciences in the area of IT workforce development and also served in Barack Obama’s first term as a member of the President’s Innovation and Technology Advisory Committee (PITAC), a working group of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST). Stephen Brobst was recently ranked the number four U.S. chief technology officer for 2014. ExecRank screened more than 2,500 Chief Technology Officers from among more than 10,000 CTOs in the United States. The top three CTOs named for 2014 hold positions with Amazon.com, Tesla Motors, and Intel®. Stephen has authored numerous journal and conference papers in the fields of data management and parallel computing environments and is an internationally recognized practitioner in the area of breakthrough systems implementation. He co-authored Building a Data Warehouse for Decision Support, published by Prentice Hall PTR and is working on a book on Active Data Warehousing® for the real-time enterprise. He has published dozens of technical articles in Intelligent Enterprise Magazine, The International Journal of High Speed Computing, Communications of the ACM, The Journal of Data Warehousing, Enterprise Systems Journal, DM Review, Database Programming and Design, and many others. Brobst has been on the faculty of the Data Warehousing Institute since 1996 and teaches courses related to Real-Time Data Warehousing, High Performance Data Warehouse Design, Data Visualization, and Emerging Technologies in Data Warehousing.
