Skyler Lucci
Co-Founder & CEO of HeyTutor
Skyler is an LA-based entrepreneur with a keen interest in education, technology, and design. Like other successful entrepreneurs, Skyler thinks that bold moves coupled with opportune timing and flawless execution define the formula for success. He’s deeply convicted to “strike when the iron’s hot.” This philosophy, along with his mental agility and comfort with change, has informed HeyTutor’s pivots and transformations over the past three years. It also defines his management style when dealing with the day-to-day of operating a national company. His action-oriented approach – paired with the ability to know what he doesn’t know and the humility to admit it – has been instrumental to HeyTutor’s success. He makes a concerted effort to surround himself with talented people whose skill sets are sometimes mutually exclusive, but always complementary to his own. This has helped him build a team that’s not just smart and capable, but also cohesive as a group and high functioning as a unit. As he puts it, “The HeyTutor team is – as a whole – greater than the sum of its individual parts.” His teambuilding capability is what makes him so great at the one thing that determines success in the tutoring industry: execution. Skyler brings this – namely, his ability to execute efficiently and effectively – to his role as HeyTutor’s CEO. Skyler’s developed a passion for surfing and snowboarding, but grew up playing football, and doing martial arts – the latter of which he did competitively (he’s nationally ranked in the Soviet martial art form of SAMBO). He’s also an absolute sports fanatic (especially football) and is fiercely loyal to LA sports franchises – he does, however, prefer the Lakers over the Clippers and the Rams over the Chargers. Apart from all things sports, Skyler has a penchant for classic 80s music. His favorites range from pop icons like Michael Jackson and Prince to Americana rockers like Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and Bruce Springsteen.
