David Timothy Strauss
Co-Founder & CTO of Pantheon
Will it scale? This is the guiding question for Pantheon CTO David Strauss, whose all-for-one-and-one-for-all improvements to web infrastructure have made the largest content sites in the world more scalable and secure, while saving developers thousands of hours in manual updates. If you’ve ever deployed an enterprise website, chances are you’ve benefited from one of the tools he’s developed. After co-founding Four Kitchens, a successful web development shop, David found himself gravitating away from custom client work and toward infrastructure solutions. Large clients like Creative Commons, Internet Archive, The Economist, and Wikimedia had already benefited from his scalability and database optimization work. Now he wanted to use this expertise to improve websites for everyone. When the opportunity to build an all-in-one website platform came along, he knew he needed to be a part of it. In addition to his role as Pantheon CTO, David also co-maintains the systemd/udev layer that runs on most of the world’s Linux systems, serves on the Advisory Board for the Drupal Association, contributes to the infrastructure and security teams at Drupal.org, and leads the development of Pressflow.

Matt Cheney
Co-Founder of Pantheon
The creation, dissemination and consumption of information is one of the world’s most important processes. A formally trained librarian and traveler to over 85 countries, Matt Cheney has seen first-hand the global importance of this flow of information and the critical role that open-source technology can play in enabling that flow. Over the past eight years, Matt has been active in the open source community, helping organize events that empower developers (BADCamp, Drupalcon SF), contributing code to the Drupal project that modernizes the end user experience (Panels, Panopoly), and co-founding a website consulting company that works directly with clients to share their information with the world (Chapter Three). He co-founded Pantheon to make freely available development and hosting tools which makes it easier for everyone to launch and run websites. Technology should be an enabler — not a barrier — and Matt’s hope is that Pantheon can make the web better for everyone. When he isn’t working at Pantheon, Matt helps to run a fixed-gear bicycle shop called Mission Bicycle, travels the world, and cooks vegan food using cutting-edge molecular gastronomic techniques.

Josh Koenig
Co-Founder & Chief Strategy Officer of Pantheon
When a developer tells Josh Koenig how happy they are, that the drudge work has been automated and now they can handle more and larger projects, he knows it’s only a matter of time. Open source just took one step closer to world (or at least world-wide-web) domination. As Co-Founder and Head of Developer Experience, Josh believes the clues to Pantheon’s destiny are in its developer DNA: best practices, modular architecture, high performance are key for all websites whether it’s a personal hobby project or a major enterprise launch. And Josh believes all this should be easy and fast. Developers need tools that let them tackle more and bigger projects with less stress and worry, and that’s what he works on As a very early Drupal adopter (user #3313), Josh was part of the team that drove the first high-profile public Drupal use-case with the Howard Dean campaign in 2003. He went on to found the Drupal Dojo, an online learning community for developers, and to co-found the premiere Drupal agency in San Francisco, Chapter Three. Demand for open source website technology is high and getting higher, but the the lack of readily available services presented too many challenges for widespread adoption. Developers and organizations didn’t need big support contracts to build faster, more scalable websites — they needed better tools to do it themselves. Today, Josh lives for the spark in a developer’s eye when they realize “there’s a best practice for that,” and it’s already built into Pantheon, the professional website platform.
