Wisconsin Internet & Software Startups 2026: gener8tor Fuels the Pipeline

BEST WISCONSIN COMPANIES AND STARTUPS

Wisconsin’s internet and software startup pipeline runs largely through gener8tor, the Madison-headquartered accelerator that has become the state’s primary engine for early-stage software companies.

gener8tor’s Growing Footprint

Founded in 2012 and headquartered in Madison, gener8tor runs accelerator programs across Madison, Milwaukee, and beyond. Its free, non-equity gBETA program has helped alumni raise more than $1.1 billion in capital and create over 7,300 jobs since 2015. In 2026, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay partnered with gener8tor to launch a second gBETA pre-accelerator cohort, extending the pipeline into Northeast Wisconsin.

Accelerate Wisconsin

The Accelerate Wisconsin initiative, launched in fall 2025, has gener8tor making investment offers to 15 companies across Madison and Milwaukee programs, plus five additional selections for a Green Bay cohort — one of the more concentrated pushes to fund internet and software startups the state has run.

What’s Getting Funded

Selected gBETA teams receive a $100,000 investment in exchange for 7.5% equity, a structure aimed at early, pre-seed software companies rather than later-stage growth rounds. Wisconsin’s broader startup scene continues to lean toward SaaS, MedTech, and AgriTech software rather than consumer internet products.
