Victor Ciardelli
President, Founder & CEO of Guaranteed Rate
Victor Ciardelli, CEO and president of Guaranteed Rate is a mortgage banking innovator. In 1992, Victor headed a traditional mortgage company. Not satisfied with the existing model for mortgage companies, Ciardelli put his ideas for a modern, streamlined operation to the test and founded Guaranteed Rate in June of 2000. By offering consumers low rates and fees, and the ability to evaluate the total cost of a home loan, Guaranteed Rate became Chicago’s largest independent mortgage lender within 3 years. Today, Guaranteed Rate is one of the largest independent retail mortgage lenders in the U.S. and the third largest retail lender overall. In 2019, Guaranteed Rate Companies funded $37 billion in loans, helping hundreds of thousands of homeowners with home purchase loans and refinances. The company’s focus on being the leader in developing and employing industry-leading technologies and processes is propelling its growth. Guaranteed Rate Companies has over 6,000 employees in nearly 700 offices across the U.S., and is licensed in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. In addition to Guaranteed Rate’s consumer advocate approach to mortgage banking, its ability to partner with top producing real estate agents nationwide has contributed to the company’s light speed success in the mortgage industry.Victor was named “CEO of the Year” at the 2014 CityLights Awards, sponsored by the Illinois Technology Association, which honor the city’s most innovative tech leaders and companies. In 2012, Ciardelli was named the regional winner of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award. Guaranteed Rate has been featured in Crain’s Chicago Magazine’s list of the Largest Privately Held Companies seven years running and was recognized for having the largest increase in revenue growth for 2009—an astounding 80% increase. Guaranteed Rate has also been on the Crain’s Fast Fifty list of the fifty fastest growing companies in Chicago every year from 2007 to 2013. The company was also named as one of “Chicago’s Top Workplaces” by the Chicago Tribune annual survey in three of the past four years, was #1 in Scotsman Guide’s “Top Mortgage Lenders” rankings for 2019 and was awarded HousingWire’s 2020 Tech100 award for its industry-leading FlashClose technology. Mortgage Executive Magazine named Ciardelli as their 2013 CEO of the Year. In addition, he was named to the MPA Magazine 2013 “Hot 100” list of most influential people in the mortgage industry.

His life and work philosophies overlap according to an essential principle that has guided many throughout the ages. “I live by the Golden Rule, here and outside of work,” says Matt, a Roman Catholic who is actively involved with his church and community. “Treat others how you’d like to be treated. What I’ve always loved about Guaranteed Rate and Victor’s vision is the focus on helping people, and not just the customer. Whether it’s great employee benefits and the rooftop deck or the GR Foundation and all the volunteer activities we do, this is a company that really treats people the right way.” However, Matt cites the focus on customer satisfaction as the element that truly sets the company apart. “We’re different than any other company in the mortgage space because of a singular focus on how we impact the customer. People here are taught early on that we do things differently, that we don’t operate according to what other companies are doing or ‘how it’s always been done’. We have a specific model, a set of core values that binds us together every day. When we get into work we’re all fighting for the same cause: to be the best in class in processes, products, and especially service.”
