Laizer Kornwasser
Member of the Board of Directors of Everyday Health Group
Based in New York, Laizer Kornwasser is the President & COO of CareCentrix, the developer of purpose-built technology, analytics, and guidance to aid patients through every stage of life, whether they be recovering from an injury or aging at home. Concurrently, Laizer teaches classes on entrepreneurial leadership at his undergraduate alma mater, Yeshiva University. Laizer Kornwasser has a very firm view when it comes to technology, especially when discussing the health care industry. He believes that, while technology is certainly a welcome part of the answer to many problems facing the world today, it is important to remember that technology alone is not the solution. For example, healthcare is a people-centric industry and the focus should be on patient care and all it entails, including crunching numbers to improve efficiency and determine cost-effectiveness. Throughout his distinguished career, Laizer has honed his intuitive ability to determine what others want and need. This skill came especially in handy as he worked with the likes of Merrill Lynch, Coopers & Lybrand, Bostwick Laboratories, Everyday Health, and Valeant Pharmaceuticals. Laizer is also a major proponent of giving and receiving feedback, as well as professional development in general — so much so that he dedicated an entire TEDx talk to his experience. James Gunn
Writer-Director of Marvel Entertainment
James Gunn was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri in a large Irish Catholic family. At the age of twelve he began his filmmaking career with an eight-millimeter camera. His first film featured his brother Sean, later an actor on the WB’s The Gilmore Girls, being disemboweled by zombies. While attending Columbia University in New York, Gunn applied for a part-time job filing papers at famed B-movie studios Troma Entertainment, and ended up writing the screenplay for the movie Tromeo & Juliet instead. He was paid $150 to do so. In 1997, Tromeo became a cult hit, playing in theaters around the world, including over a year of midnight screenings in Los Angeles. Gunn left Troma to write and star (along with Rob Lowe, Thomas Haden-Church, and Jamie Kennedy) in the 2000 feature film, The Specials, about a group of superheroes on their day off. In the same year, Bloomsbury Press released Gunn’s critically acclaimed novel The Toy Collector, the story of a hospital orderly who sells drugs to finance his escalating toy collecting addiction. He also wrote, with Lloyd Kaufman, the non-fiction book All I Need to Know About Filmmaking I Learned from the Toxic Avenger, currently in its fifth printing. In 2002 the live action Scooby-Doo movie was released into theaters. Gunn wrote the screenplay for the film, which has grossed $300 million worldwide. In March of 2004 Gunn became the first screenwriter in cinema history to write back-to-back #1-for-the-weekend box office hits, with the critically-acclaimed, re-imagined Dawn of the Dead on March 19, 2004 and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed on March 26, 2004. Gunn’s love for the comedy and horror genres coalesced in the humorous horror film SLiTHER, released by Universal in 2006. Gunn wrote the film, his feature-film directorial debut, which stars Nathan Fillion and Elizabeth Banks. The film is currently featured on Rotten Tomatoes as one of the “Top Ten All–Time Best Reviewed Horror Films.” It was named “The Best Horror film of 2006” by Rue Morgue Magazine, and James Gunn won a Saturn Award and a Fangoria Chainsaw Award for his work on the film. In 2008 Gunn created Xbox Live’s first ever original content, producing seven comedy shows by horror directors, and creating his own, Sparky & Mikaela. Also in 2008, Gunn hosted the reality show Scream Queens for VH1, and began writing and directing the web series James Gunn’s PG Porn for Spike.com. James Gunn’s PG Porn pairs mainstream actors and porn stars in comedy shorts. It has received over twenty million hits online, has been remade by Canal + in France, and is one of the most profitable web series of all time. Gunn wrote and directed the independent feature film, SUPER, starring Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page, Liv Tyler, and Kevin Bacon. It is the dark, comedic tale of a disturbed man who dresses up as a superhero to save his ex-wife from her drug-dealing new boyfriend. SUPER premiered as an Official Selection of the Toronto Film Festival, and was the very first film picked up by distributors at the fest. Most recently, Gunn wrote and directed Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Glenn Close, Benicio del Toro, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, and John C. Reilly. It was one of the top grossing films of 2014.

Director of Client Service & Operations of The TEAM Companies
The story of Julie Thompson’s career begins in a book store in the land of Calabasas where, once upon a time, she was a well-respected manager and trainer for Walden Books and then Barnes & Noble. One day, out of the blue, a friend from a land not so far away (L.A.) told Julie of a world called commercials where people got paid to pretend to be someone else in order to sell products. However, there were special rules for paying these pretenders (known as “Talent”) and those rules were encased in the complex pages of what are called the SAG & AFTRA commercial agreements. It took wizards to decipher these agreements and this Intrigued Julie. Always up for an adventure, she joined her friend in the Talent division of Media Services to learn the craft. While at Media Services she heard of Shannon Kerns, a grand wizard of the SAG & AFTRA contracts. In hopes that Shannon was looking for an apprentice, Julie reached out to her at Cast & Crew. She struck a chord with the oracle of these union contracts and was invited to join Shannon and her crew of merry people. Julie quickly absorbed the wisdom and strategic thinking of this knowledgeable mentor & when the opportunity came for Shannon to move the entire group to TEAM, Julie followed without hesitation. The knowledge that she has gleaned by deeply immersing herself in the SAG/AFTRA agreements and applying them in many unique circumstances has provided Julie with deep insight and catapulted her through the ranks at The TEAM Companies, first to the role of Manager of their Talent division on the west coast and now as Director, Client Service and Operations.
