NEO’s core intelligence is powered by 1X’s Redwood AI model, enabling it to learn from human demonstrations and apply that knowledge in real environments. The company combines real-time teleoperation with autonomous learning, meaning every NEO gets smarter over time.
What It Cannot Do Yet
While impressive, NEO is not fully autonomous. Many actions still rely on remote human assistance, especially in unpredictable environments. The robot cannot cook complex meals, care for pets, or navigate messy spaces without some supervision.
1X Technologies has been transparent about this phase. Current NEO units operate in what they call “shared autonomy,” meaning the AI handles most motions while humans supervise remotely when needed. This approach keeps NEO safe and reliable as it learns more.

NEO Is Here: The Humanoid Home Robot That’s Redefining Home Life
Imagine walking into your home and being greeted not by a voice assistant, but by a walking, human-like companion that helps tidy the living room, folds your laundry, and even brings a glass of water when you ask. That is not science fiction anymore. That is NEO, the humanoid home robot for the home developed by 1X Technologies.
Built with advanced AI and precision-engineered hardware, NEO is more than a smart gadget. It is a domestic partner designed to transform how humas live and interact with machines.
Where It All Began: The Vision of 1X Technologies
1X Technologies, formerly Halodi Robotics, was founded in 2014 by Norwegian roboticist Bernt Oyvind Bornich. The company operates out of Palo Alto, California, with development centers in Moss, Norway.
From its early years building industrial robots, the mission has evolved toward a bold goal: creating safe, intelligent humanoids capable of performing physical labor alongside humans. 1X’s vision is simple but revolutionary – to make an abundant supply of physical labor possible through intelligent humanoids.
Before NEO, most home automation came through static devices like vacuums, smart speakers, or robotic arms. The “after” era, marked by NEO, redefines what is possible inside our homes: full-body humanoids that walk, grasp, and respond naturally.
What NEO Can Do Right Now
The NEO humanoid robot for the home is built for real-world environments. It walks with a human-like gait, moves quietly, and performs household chores with remarkable fluidity.
What NEO can do today:
NEO’s core intelligence is powered by 1X’s Redwood AI model, enabling it to learn from human demonstrations and apply that knowledge in real environments. The company combines real-time teleoperation with autonomous learning, meaning every NEO gets smarter over time.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is NEO and who makes it?
NEO is a humanoid home robot developed by 1X Technologies, a Norwegian robotics company backed by OpenAI and other investors. Designed for domestic environments, NEO is built to assist with household tasks including cleaning, carrying objects, and interacting with home systems — representing one of the most advanced humanoid robots designed specifically for consumer home use.
What household tasks can NEO perform?
NEO is designed to handle a range of household tasks including picking up and moving objects, basic cleaning, loading and unloading appliances, and navigating home environments safely. Its dexterous hands and bipedal movement allow it to operate in spaces designed for humans without requiring modifications to the home environment.
How does NEO use AI to navigate home environments?
NEO uses computer vision, spatial mapping, and large-scale neural networks trained on human movement data to understand and navigate home environments in real time. 1X Technologies emphasises learning from human demonstration rather than explicit programming, allowing NEO to generalise skills across different homes and layouts rather than requiring custom setup for each environment.
What is the price of NEO and when will it be available?
1X Technologies has not yet announced a final consumer price for NEO, but the company has indicated it is targeting a price point that makes humanoid home assistance accessible to a broad market rather than restricting it to high-income households. Commercial and early adopter deployments are expected to precede a wider consumer launch.
How does 1X Technologies differ from other humanoid robot companies?
1X Technologies focuses specifically on safe, collaborative robots designed to work alongside humans in domestic and commercial settings, emphasising gentle movement and AI learning rather than brute-force mechanical capability. This contrasts with companies like Boston Dynamics (which focuses on industrial and outdoor mobility) and Figure (which targets warehouse automation).
What is the market potential for home humanoid robots?
Analysts project the home robotics market could reach $170 billion by 2030 as AI capabilities improve, manufacturing costs fall, and aging populations in developed economies drive demand for domestic assistance. The first companies to achieve reliable, safe, and affordable humanoid home robots will have a generational market opportunity comparable to the smartphone.
